News Update October 2011

The Hampton Roads Affiliate meets the second Tuesday of every month with the exceptions of June, July, and August. The meetings are alternated between luncheon and dinners to afford all members an opportunity to attend a gathering that fit their demanding schedules. Meetings are industry sponsored with the business meeting following the presentation.

We want to thank Joan Selekof , President of the Mid-Atlantic Region for her participation at our September lunch meeting.  It was a great honor and inspiration to have the Region in attendance.

On May 21st 2011 the HR WOCN TEAM participated in the Tidewater Area Take Steps for Crohns and Colitis walk, raising over $1100.00 for the Crohns and Colitis Foundation.

We celebrated an educational day for our members in September.  Louise Johnson of our affiliate gave a lecture on Diabetic Feet, Kathy Merkh also of our affilate spoke on Urinary Diversions, Sue Creehan from MCV/VCU presented on Deep Tissue Injury, and Diane Martinez gave a stimulating talk on Malpractice

Rhonda Johnson made her trip to Africa to provide diabetic foot and nail care.  Well done Rhonda.

Congratulations to member Mary Lou Dixon for her article “ Hair Braids as a Risk Factor for Occipital Pressure Ulcer Development: A Case Study”, that appeared in the OWM October 2011 issue.

We look forward to 2013 and are in preparation for an exciting year.
