VCU Health's OSI-Stony Point V Multispecialty Clinic Wound Care Team is seeking a FT Clinical Nurse to start an Ostomy clinic. The wound and ostomy nurse will develop and sustain an environment that promotes excellence in clinical practice and customer satisfaction, while striving for optimal efficiency and productivity of all resources. The WOCN will provide simple to complex wound, ostomy/fistula care to patients of VCU Health. The nurse will coordinate treatments to provide comprehensive wound, ostomy/fistula assessments and plan of care, including goals, implementation of treatment, evaluation and outcomes for patients. The nurse will provide patient, family, and staff education regarding wound, ostomy/fistula management and provide pre- and post - operative education for the ostomy population.

The Wound and Ostomy Nurse is an advanced clinician who, with increasing independence, utilizes the nursing process and current clinical knowledge to provide professional nursing care for all patients needing specialized wound and ostomy care. Utilizes advanced knowledge and experience to assess the health needs of patients, collaborates with health team members to coordinate patient care, anticipates the outcomes of the nursing interventions, and sets criteria for the quality of patient care. Provides patient and staff education, and assesses need for and implements activities (quality assessment, in-services, etc.). Accepts responsibility and accountability for ethical/legal functioning.

Responsibilities:

  • Integrates technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet the needs of the patient and family.
  • Assists the health care team with the prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort.
  • Delivers and accurately documents direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care.

Qualifications:

  • Required:
    • One year or more of clinical experience
    • Current RN licensure in Virginia, AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent
    • Graduate of an accredited RN nursing program
    • Completion of a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program within 5 years of hire, (if not BSN-prepared or higher) will be a requirement for continued employment.
    • WOCN certified
  • Preferred:
    • Completion of a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program
    • Three or more years of experience
    • Unit-based resource, educator and consultant
    • Academic Health Care Experience; Experience with similar patient population in either an acute care setting or as applicable to area of practice.
